Tooth Extraction Post Op

As you recover from your tooth extraction, it’s important to follow these post-operative instructions carefully to ensure a smooth healing process:

Bleeding Control:

Place a gauze pad over the extraction site, alternating 20 minutes on and off, until bleeding stops.

Pain Management:

Take prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication as recommended for discomfort.

Swelling Management:

Apply an ice pack or a bag of frozen peas (wrapped in a thin towel) to the cheek near the extraction site (10 minutes on, 10 minutes off).

Oral Hygiene:

Avoid rinsing your mouth for the first 2 days. After 2 days, gently rinse with warm salt water.

Avoid brushing the extraction area for the first 24 hours. After that, gently brush the area with a soft toothbrush to maintain cleanliness while avoiding irritation.

Hydration and Diet:

Drink plenty of fluids without using a straw.

Eat soft foods and avoid chewing on the extraction side.

Avoid hot, acidic, spicy foods, and foods like nuts, seeds, popcorn, which can get stuck in the extraction socket.

Special Instructions for Upper Teeth Extractions:

Do not blow your nose for at least one week.

Activity:

Rest on the day of extraction and limit physical activities for the next 24-48 hours.

For Limited Mouth Opening and TMJ Pain:

Apply warm compresses and perform gentle jaw exercises if experiencing TMJ pain or limited mouth opening.

Complete the full course of any prescribed antibiotics to prevent infection.
